Is This Not a Perfect Description of Where We are Today?

Read this quote from The Matrix where Morpheous describes the Matrix.

The Matrix is a system, Neo. That system is our enemy. But when you’re inside, you look around and what do you see? Businessmen, Teachers, Lawyers, Carpenters…the very minds of the people we’re trying to save. But until we do, these people are still a part of that system, and that makes them our enemy. You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so innerred, so hopelessly dependent on the system that they will that they will fight to protect it.

That description is a perfect description of American society when it comes to laws such as the income tax and how we allow ourselves to be controlled by our government. The Matrix is an almost perfect allegory of America today.

b>My one word review: Incredible!

My one sentence review: How can you not like a movie with blue people? (My favorite color is blue.)

Avatar is one of those movies that when it ends you just want to be alone with your thoughts for awhile and somehow stay in the place the movie took you to. You turn off the radio on the drive home. You don’t talk to anyone. You just sit and let the movie sink into your brain.

Shannara Book Series to become Film Series

Terry Brooks is one of my favorite authors and the Sword of Shannara books are some of my favorite books. The Sword of Shannara was the first book I read as a kid when I started reading books for fun. This morning I read here that Warner Bros. Pictures is planning to turn these books into a film series. This is great news to me. I’ve always thought they would make great movies and since the Lord of the Rings did so well, I think now is a great time. Here’s hoping that they do just as good a job as the did on Lord of the Rings.

I look forward to seeing Allanon and the Druids and Eventine Ellesidel and the elves and Paranor and all the great things that I read in these books and saw in my mind’s eye. If you haven’t read these books I very much recommend them.

Superman Returns

I saw Superman Returns this weekend. It was very good and I’d call it one of the most fun movies I’ve seen in awhile. It was awesome to see Superman do his thing with the latest special effects. Also, it’s refreshing to see a movie where the hero is a true hero. There are no shades of grey with Superman. He tries to do the right thing all the time and behave in respectful, polite manner. Call it corny, or whatever, but I found it refreshing. I like my heroes to be ideal. Especially Superman.
